Gag grouper fishing has been going well for us lately and were expecting that will only get better as we move through September with spits of slower periods depending on our depths fished.
Scamp grouper are also cooperating well with the last trip hauling in a solid number of big scamp grouper on the average sized pinfish, slow pitch jigs and dead threadfin. We are seeing some quality scamp out there right now and expect them to remain constant through the coming weeks.
Red grouper closure was recently announced too. This is a quota closure, meaning that the quota for red grouper is projected to be met. Meaning that we are catching a lot of fish and the fishery is healthier.
Offshore fishing still going well for us and we are seeing some good sized fish especially a little deeper. We are seeing decent numbers using big dead baits and large live baits for them.
Scamp grouper fishing goes well for us when fishing closer to that 200ft mark as well especially on smaller live baits and the small cut threadfin chunks while targeting mangrove snapper.
Red snapper season continues on with some good action going on offshore for these fish.
We are seeing some nice mangrove snapper, quite a few lanes, and a few red grouper on the ten hour all day trips lately with a good number of the grey snapper, or white grunts, along with plentiful porgies too.
Despite battling the summertime doldrums of nice weather and lack of wind and current and the spotty rains and thunderstorms the offshore fishing has been going very well for us overall.
Gag grouper fishing has been hot too and we are seeing them deep right now due to heat of the water. We are catching them using much larger live baits but also dead baits. A lot of big gags lately have been biting well on strips of the bonita, whole squid, and bigger threadfins with the tails cut. The trick is getting them landed once you get them to bite. That has been difficult unless you are using the appropriate tackle around 80lb leader minimum. However, around 100lb leader is best with around 7-12ot hooks depending on your bait size.
