Red snapper season is just a few days away. We are pumped to get out there and exact our revenge on these fish we have had to release for the past ten months.
The blackfin tuna bite has been great and the mahi mahi are showing up finally too. Great time of year to have the flat line out and a pitch rod ready.
Snook action has continued to heat up with the weather. These guys continue to push back into the passes and a few onto the beaches as they gear up for their summertime pattern of choking the passes and beaches to move near shore to spawn.
Further offshore, we are seeing some big mangrove snapper hanging around the potholes and ledges we are targeting for big red grouper, scamp grouper and others beyond 120-160ft of water.
Redfish have been steady through the area some of them at night, but a majority are during the day around our local dock lines near the passes or around the flats, oyster bars, mangrove islands or shorelines.
We have seen some great red grouper action out in the deeper waters when weather has permitted us to make it out to these fish. Especially beyond around 150ft of water looking for them on the potholes and smaller ledges. Even up to 250ft of water we have pushed out to find exceptionally large and highly active red grouper.
RED SNAPPER 2021 FINALIZED for now… Our American red snapper season will be the same start date as past 8 years or so for federally permitted for hire vessels who are federally managed (including us). Our start date will be June first and our season will end when the quota is projected to be caught and currently that is August 3rd at 12:01am so August 2nd is the last day to legally land them before midnight…. BOOK NOW!
Mackerel and Kingfish are dominating the near shore waters right now. Many of our private fishing charters have been solely dedicated to trolling and drifting for these guys if our clients want a lot of action and do not have grouper and snapper as a main target.
Red grouper action has been steady for us along that closure line, but Yesterday that deep water closure finally concluded and were ready to head offshore deep today on a 39-hour trip in search of those super fat red grouper that have been out of our reach for the past two months.
We are seeing some nice kingfish in the 18-25lb range fairly regularly right now near shore up to 100ft of water with the occasional big boy 25+lbs but still not crazy thick on the kingfish but the mackerel are there
