John's PAss History

The creation of John’s Pass can be traced back to the unnamed hurricane of 1848. Unleashing its fury upon the Gulf Coast, the hurricane carved a substantial channel through the barrier island that presently divides Madeira Beach to the north and Treasure Island to the south. In honor of its intrepid explorer, Jean “John” Levique, a resident turtle hunter and fisherman, the passage came to be known as John’s Pass. Throughout the subsequent century, this area underwent a remarkable transformation, evolving from a tranquil fishing village into the vibrant shopping and entertainment hub that thrives today as the southernmost part of Madeira Beach.
